Mission College will celebrate the grand opening of its Health, Fitness & Athletics Complex on Saturday, February 20. The facility is located 1/3 of a mile from the main campus on Harding Street.
The event kicks off at 8:30 a.m. with a 5K run and walk that is open to everyone. A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m., followed by tours of the new $53 million complex at 10:30 a.m.
A community health and fitness fair, including sample workout classes, and activities for children will be offered at the event.
The new 90,000-square-foot two-level building has a three court gymnasium, an elevated three-lane jogging track, weight-fitness and cardio area, five classrooms, three multipurpose rooms, a training room, locker rooms and faculty offices.
The fitness center was designed to meet LEED silver standards. The building has a "chiller" for cooling and uses recycled materials from local sources that contribute to better indoor air quality. It also has water efficient low-flow plumbing fixtures and a cool roof.
