Dr. Tyree Wieder

Dr. Tyree Wieder has served as President of Los Angeles Valley College since 1995. A native Californian, Dr. Wieder was raised in South Central Los Angeles, where she attended local public schools. She attended Compton Community College, and then transferred to California State University, Northridge, where she completed a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology. She received her Doctoral degree at UCLA in Higher Education Administration.

She began her career as an Employment Counselor for the State Employment Service. Her career in education began at Moorpark College as a counselor. She accepted a position at Los Angeles Mission College as Dean of Student Services, and was later appointed Dean of Academic Affairs. She was then selected as Director of Educational Programs for the Los Angeles Community College District before coming to Valley College as Vice President of Academic Affairs in 1989.

She has a distinguished record of community involvement, having served as Chairperson of the Board of Directors for Northridge Hospital Medical Center as well as a member of the Board of Directors for Catholic Healthcare West. Dr. Wieder was a member of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Community Forum, the Honorary Advisory Board of Haven Hills Shelter for Battered Women, Sisterhood of Temple Ahavat Shalom, and was City Controller Laura Chick’s appointee to the City of Los Angeles’ Redistricting Committee. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Valley Industry and Commerce Association, the Economic Alliance of the San Fernando Valley, and is Co-Chair of its Education and Workforce Development Initiative Committee. Dr. Wieder has received numerous awards, including nomination for the 2001 Fernando Award for Civic Accomplishment; recognition by the San Fernando Valley Business Journal in 2002 as one of the “Women Who Mean Business” and in 2001 as one of the Valley’s 25 most influential business leaders; the Armand Arabian Award for Leaders in Public Service in 2000; the 1999 Community Service Award for Haven Hills; and the 1998 Woman of the Year 40th Assembly District. Dr. Wieder presently serves on the Board of Directors of the Chief Executive Officers of the California Community Colleges, as well as the Advisory Committee for the Auto Club of Southern California, and the Governor’s University of California Regents Selection Advisory Board.
