Solar Energy Conference
The first annual Solar Energy Conference held at Los Angeles Harbor College explored solar energy solutionsand the steps needed to make it a widely accepted technology in Los Angeles. The conference brought together officials from LACCD and the City of Los Angeles, architects, construction managers, union representatives and solar advocates.
Sustainability Conference
The 4th Annual LACCD Sustainability Conference highlighted the Los Angeles Community College District'sleadership in green building, and with over 450 participants this year, has grown to become one of thesustainability movement's showcase events.
Climate Registry
The Los Angeles Community College District joined the California Climate Action Registry and committed to track and publicly report its greenhouse gas emissions, with the goal of increasing energy efficiency anddecreasing greenhouse gas emissions at all nine of its campuses.
Metropolitan Water District
Memorandum of Understanding Trimming red tape so that small companies find it easier to bid on large public contracts, the MetropolitanWater District (MWD) and the LACCD joined together to dramatically enhance future prospects for small businesses throughout Southern California.
Through a unique public agency agreement, MWD and LACCD officials signed a Memorandum of Understanding that pledges to pool resources, streamline application procedures and encourage more regional job opportunities.
Furniture Value Program
In support of its sustainable goals, LACCD used its huge purchasing power to change the way furniture is produced. LACCD is buying high quality, 100% recyclable furniture that comes with a full 15-year warranty. As part of this program, LACCD created an innovative furniture showroom in downtown Los Angeles that simulates classrooms, professors' offices, and campus common areas. The showroom is facilitating thecolleges in getting quality furniture at a discounted price.
